Chess

Our Story

On 30 November 2024, Baby Brain Training began advertising a chess club for girls aged 4 to 11 years old at the Maqam Centre in Queens Park. The club was initially created to provide an opportunity for girls and their friends to foster a love for and learn the game of chess together. Local schools were not offering chess to children under 8 years old and it was generally perceived to be a sport for boys.

On 06 January 2025, the first session with a four and five year old took place and was a great success! Children who were brand new to chess would learn all piece movements and essential principles in a matter of weeks.

By February 2025, the network of girl players was established, so the club grew into a mixed gender club which runs on several days.

We now are branching out into several locations across London, with intention to bring joy to more children through exciting tournaments.

Our Mission

Our teachers provide group and 1:1 tuition, in person and virtually.

They strive to deliver engaging tuition that helps students enhance their chess ELO rating and, for those that have the ambition, perform well in competition.

The programme teaches students how to follow rules, creates a social network for players and teaches good sportsmanship.
